You can think of so many ways that accounts for well pump problems during operations and have many reasons why each of the malfunctions would occur. With pump motors not starting, not stop starting and not stopping at all, you can point out to several avenues so you can see the problem for yourself.
Well pump troubleshooting mainly involves the thorough inspecting of all the parts involved in the sump pump for any signs of abnormal functioning and any damage to the system itself.

Well Pump Troubleshooting – When Motors Does not start
Pump motors do not start up because of a number of reasons. Some of them though are easy to fix and get over with, while some others would clearly require expertise and probably additional labor. You can start by checking out the fuses and its circuit breaker box. Tripped circuit breakers simply require flipping the switch again. Try to look for loose, dirty, and especially those corroded fuses that would require replacement.
You should care to check the cabling around the water pump pressure switch. Do this by testing out the voltage at contact points. If that should fail, you can have the switch replaced as well. While testing, measure also the voltage of the line terminals. Volt meters will tell you if voltage is positioned at a plus ten or minus ten percent with the rated voltage.
Well Pump Troubleshooting – When Motors Tend to Start More Often
In this rather special case, it would be prudent to check again the water pump pressure switch. An incorrect setting of the pressure switch would simply require you to reset. If you notice any noticeable defects though, then it would be smart to have them replaced immediately.
With that settled, you can now direct your attention to the check valve. If ever it is stuck open, then it will never hold onto the proper pressure required which prompts the machine to start continuously. This obviously requires replacing. You can also check out the air charge to see if it is already faulty. This would eventually result to a waterlogged tank that will leave you with no choice except to have it replaced. While at it, check out the pipes connected to the pump for any obvious leaks that would require replacing.
When the Motor won’t stop running, that should hint you to go to the pressure switch and make the proper adjustments. See if that actually stops the motor. Otherwise, you would have to get down dirty and clean the contacts thoroughly. If that still won’t solve the problem, then you should have the whole pressure switch replaced.
It is very clear that some aspects of the troubleshooting activities would require a decent knowledge in working the problems of both the electrical and plumbing systems. If ever you were in doubt, it wouldn’t hurt to call in the professionals. Never attempt to do everything yourself if you are truly not qualified.
